Paper deals with the problem of prediction of environmental noise levels caused by road traffic in urban area. Successful prediction of environmental noise levels is crucial for sustainable spatial planning. Especially at the present when the intensity of road traffic is increasing rapidly it is important to pay attention to noise levels in the resident areas. There are several situations presented in the paper in which noise loads are calculated with different calculation methods used for road noise prediction (Czech method, French NMPB-Routes-1996, Swiss SonRoad and international Harmonoise). Discussed situations represent conditions which are often seen in urban area such as street canyons, scattered buildings and partially shielded areas. In orderto maintain a high level of objectiveness, measurements of road traffic noise were performed in real situations. LAeq in these measurements was again calculated with different methods.
