Multi-site correlation functions in surface diffusion

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

We apply a general theory of finite-size scaling near first-order phase transitions to study the multi-site correlation functions that arise in the modeling of surface diffusion in the local equilibrium limit. A formula for the correlation functions in the case of coexistence of several phases is thus readily obtained, expressing the correlations via derivatives of the free energy. The particular cases of a single stable phase and two and three coexisting phases are discussed. A simple lattice gas on three lattices is considered to illustrate the general results, explicitly evaluating the required free energy derivatives.
