Hygric Properties of Sandstones as a Function of Porosity
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Sandstones, clastic sedimentary rocks, were used as load-bearing materials for centuries. Even though nowadays these natural materials are usually used as decorative or facing materials, sandstones still belong to the group of building materials. Rocks, which can be called sandstones (from a geological point of view), vary widely. All properties depend mainly on the mineralogical composition, granularity and pore system of an individual material. Because the aim of this study was to find out the relationship between hygric properties and pore size distribution, selected materials differ mainly in their porosity. Mostly quartzose sandstones with an irregular granularity, which are quarried in the Czech Republic, were chosen and experimentally characterised for the purpose of this study. The dependencies of water vapour transport properties on the porosity of quartzose sandstones were found in a form of a power function, while in the case of liquid water transport exponential function fi
