Testing of the Automatic Targeting of Total Station Trimble S8 on Reflective Targets

The paper deals with precision and accuracy of the automatic targeting of total station Trimble S8 on reflective targets under different angles of incidence beam. Trimble S8 is an advanced robotic total station (accuracy of distance measurement: 0.8 mm,accuracy of direction measurement: 0.3 mgon). It is often used on construction sites for automatic geodetic monitoring. Reflective targets are often used in monitoring and they have different characteristics than classic geodetic prisms. For this reasonit is necessary consider configuration of geodetic network and type of the reflective targets. In the test were used 4 types of reflective targets (Trimble, Leica, Sokkia and unbranded target) and 1 total station. The test was carried out at the laboratory pillar baseline. The targets were at distances of 6.4 m, 13.9 m and 38.6 m. The targets were rotated to gain the incidence angle in the interval 0° - 60° in step 15°.
