The Implementation of Building Information Modeling into Educational Programs at CTU in Prague
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
As a powerful tool for sustainability in construction, the Building Information Modeling (BIM) has been struggling with implementation into practice for the last two decades. Key factors of BIM implementation in a market are demand, supply, government support and educational support. The paper deals with the problem of implementing BIM into the curriculum of a technical university in an environment where BIM has not been fully adopted yet. There were various obstacles and presented case studies may provide the reader with more details about complexity of such a task. These case studies are preceded by theoretical insight into educational system of the Czech Republic and theoretical background of educational structure of CTU in Prague. At the end of the paper, objectivized lessons learned are presented and future development is explained. Information gathered can be used worldwide to improve BIM related education, especially in countries where BIM has not been adopted yet in the university education system. By implementing BIM into education, graduating students will have mastered another tool, which will allow them to participate in more efficient, sustainable construction projects with higher overall quality.
