The effect of pozzolanic materials on the properties of ternary calcined gypsum pastes was investigated. The importance of the gypsum materials constantly increases during the last decades, because gypsum is environmentally friendly material with low energy consumption and can be produced from the large scale of waste products. The main obstacles for wider application of gypsum are the decrease of strength in the wet environment, partial solubility in the water and sometimes relatively low strength. These problems can be solved by using calcined gypsum as a part of ternary binders, constituted besides gypsum from some pozzolanic material and another component, which serves as an activator of pozzolanic reaction, because the gypsum itself does not provide the conditions for it. As an activator the hydrated lime can be used. Several pastes with different types of pozzolanic materials (microsilica, crushed ceramic or blast slag) were prepared and stored in the wet environment. Their basic physical, mechanical, thermal and water vapour transport properties were measured and compared with the properties of the material without the pozzolanic admixture.
