This paper deals with optimization of design processes in construction industry. In this process a significant amount of information has to be exchanged and managed. However, it is usually carried out with little interaction between participants. Traditionally, the work is split into several temporary sequences and it is delivered to different specialists. Many kinds of different programs are used with different file formats and low interoperability. Risk of failure is high, and its consequences may be very expensive and hard to manage. Therefore, a lot of possibilities for improvement are recognized. These possibilities are tested on a real example of prefabricated frame structure. The current state of the construction of this structure is described and evaluated to identify its real weaknesses and threats. Then a desired future state is proposed with all related countermeasures based on available case studies. These measures include new software implementation, new role of data coordinator or contract changes. Finally, there is a discussion of the most probable challenges for the implementation of these countermeasures.
