Tubular steel arch stabilized by textile membranes

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

Tubular steel arch supporting textile membrane roofing is investigated experimentally and numerically. The investigation of stabilization effects of the textile membrane on in-plane and out-of-plane behaviour of the steel tube arch supporting the membranes is of primary interest. The textile membranes are widely used to cover both common and exclusive structures due to progress of new membrane materials with superb properties. First a model of a large membrane structure covering a concert stage and tested in laboratory is described. Prestressed membranes of PVC coated polyester fabric Ferrari® Précontraint 702S were used as currently standard and excellent material. The test arrangement, loading and resulting stress/deflection values are presented. The supporting structure consisted of two steel arch tubes, outer at edge of the membrane and inner supporting interior of the membrane roofing. The stability and strength behaviour of the inner tube under both symmetrical and asymmetrical loading was monitored and is shown in a detail. Second the SOFiSTiK software was employed to analyze the structural behaviour in 3D, using geometrically nonlinear analysis with imperfections (GNIA). The numerical analysis covers study of FE mesh sensitivity, investigation of a proper modelling of the membrane prestressing and common boundary conditions. The numerical results are validated using test results. Finally a parametrical study concerning membranes supported by one central steel arch with various geometries is presented. The paper concludes with recommendations for appropriate numerical modelling and stability design of the supporting tubular arches.
