Effect of incorporated superabsorbent polymers on workability and hydration process in cement-based materials
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The crack propagation and autogenous shrinkage pose a significant weakness for concrete structures. On this account, the utilization of smart materials can be viewed as a promising step to overbridge the common issues. Namely, the application of superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) can improve the autogenous shrinkage and crack sealing thanks to its great swelling capability. However, SAP particles used as water retaining admixtures have a substantial influence on the rheological properties due to fast water removal from the mixture, thus finally decreasing the workability of fresh mixture. The lowered workability of the fresh mixture may result in the densification of the material matrix due to internal curing and decrease the strength due to the macro-pores formation. In this study, the effect of incorporated SAP on the rheology of cement mortars was studied, and methodology for a determination of optimal water dosage was employed. The effect of incorporation of SAP dosages about 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1 wt.% on the fresh mixture workability, initial and final setting time, and mechanical strength parameters were determined. The method compares the flow values to determine the amount of additional water and plasticizer in order to counteract the loss in workability and the change in microstructure. SGEM2019.
