TRADITIONAL EXAMPLES OF SUSTAINABLE VILLAGE DEVELOPMENT IN CONTEXT OF CONTEMPORARY RURAL PLANNING

Sustainable development of villages so that not increase the built-up area of settlement is very actual issue not only because of the technical and traffic infrastructure systems but also in view of village historic core transformation possibilities. Especially in context of crisis of village historical core mainly caused by the loose of majority agricultural function in Czech villages. This paper is focused on village urbanised area internal reserves usage for new development. Some historical examples of increasing the village capacity were analysed: the Hight Medieval principles of village transformation, the manor estate principle, the non-farmland-owners houses situation, the Raabisation principles and the conversion of Czech villages in communistic and post-communistic times. The knowledge of historical approaches facilitates us formulate general principles for contemporary rural development practice. Notably the examples of non-farmland-owners parcellation locations, which are in principle very close to current non-agricultural living of rural inhabitants. Contemporary sustainable village development could be based on these traditional principles.
