Research of the redevelopment spoil heap for construction of the homogenization coal deposit

Currently the brownfields (especially spoil heap) are frequently used for the construction of industrial units. A designed homogenization coal deposit (HCD) has determined very strict limits for the deformation of the foundation. Since the heterogeneous unconsolidated spoil heap with huge depths is found in the area, the implementation of the foundation using classic technologies will be very complicated. We have done geological investigation and field testing before design of the foundation of the HCD. The analyses have particularly validated the possibility of spoil heap settlement. We have determined several methods of the feasible foundation. Individual eventualities have been reviewed by numerical modeling using finite element method. Furthermore, the monitoring system was projected and constructed along with foundation of the HCD. It included boreholes, piezometers and pore pressure gauges. Nowadays, we have more than 15 years of the experience with working of the HCD – due to continuous data from the monitoring. In this time, we are still observing this area also with numerical modeling and the field tests. The field tests were repeated every 5 years. Within them the bearing capacity of bedrock vs. the loader (stacker) has been measured. It is very important to eliminate uneven settlement of tracks of the stacker – minimum of the settlement is a necessary condition for operation of the HCD. Therefore, we have designed the possibilities of the reinforcement of bedrock during using of the HCD when the settlements was unsuitable. A lot of output data with long time period, carry out field tests including of the numerical modeling are unique.
