WP6 GAS: Results summary of Czech participation in EURAD
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
This report summarises work preformed by Czech partners within the EURAD project WP 6 Mechanical understanding of gas transport in clay-based materials for the first half of the project. WP 6 investigates the behaviour of gas in the deep geological repository. The Czech consortium takes part in two tasks: Task 2.2 Gas entry and flow through a bentonite barrier (UJV, CTU) and Task 3 Barrier integrity (CTU). Within Task 2 the gas flow and breakthrough pressures are investigated in three types of bentonite: calcium-magnecium bentonite (BCV), sodium bentonite (MX-80) and pure montmotillonite (Kunipia). Air and hydrogen are injected into bentonite samples of various target dry densities The results allow to observe if breakthrough pressures are similar to the theoretical swelling pressures of the bentonite samples and to compare air and hydrogen migration. Within Task 3 the barrier integrity is investigated. A series of repeated fast gas breakthrough tests on homogenous samples has been performed with resaturation and the verification of the barrier properties (hydraulic conductivity and swelling pressure) after the breakthrough event. The intermediate results show that an influence of the breakthrough events on the bentonite properties is not significant and does not increase with the number of cycles.
