TOXIC AND BIODEGRADATION POTENTIAL OF WASTE TIRES FOR MICROORGANISMS
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Waste tires are a well-known environmental problem today. Therefore, there is an effort to use them for the preparation of various building materials in order to reduce the generation of waste and reduce its danger to the environment. Whereas ecotoxicity to plants and animals has been demonstrated due to the presence of metals and organic pollutants that may be released into the environment, toxicity to microorganisms has not been much studied so far. For this reason, the toxicity and potential biodegradation of crushed tires to a non-specific soil microbial community were evaluated in the present study. 100% tire leachate was used for testing, to which a microbial inoculum was added and dissolved oxygen was measured in the solutions 4times over 28 days. The results were compared with control groups (tires only, inoculum in nutrient medium). The values obtained indicate zero biodegradation and toxicity of the tire sample to microorganisms.
