Die Braunkohlevorkommen des im westlichen Teil der Region Aussig (Ústí nad Labem) gelegenen Nordböhmischen Beckens begründeten seit dem letzten Viertel des 19. Jahrhunderts die Entwicklung der dicht besiedelten Region zum industriellen Zentrum Tschechiens. Derzeit kämpft die Altindustrielandschaft mit den strukturellen Problemen der sozioökonomischen Transformation.

The brown coal deposits of the North Bohemian Basin, located in the western part of the Aussig region (Ústí nad Labem), have been the reason for the development of the densely populated region into the industrial center of the Czech Republic since the last quarter of the 19th century. The old industrial landscape is currently struggling with the structural problems of socio-economic transformation.
