Discussion on Challenges and Opportunities for Demountable Building Structures in Czechia’s Transition to a Circular Economy
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The growing demand for sustainable and circular construction practices has highlighted the potential of Design for Disassembly and Deconstruction strategies, namely the application of demountable building structures. This paper examines the rationale behind the adoption of demountable building structures and the opportunities they offer for scalable urban development, flexibility and adaptation to changing needs. The application of design for disassembly allows easier ways to replace, reuse and recycle building elements at the end of their life cycle, contributing to the promotion of circular practices and resulting in lower environmental impact on the construction sector. However, despite the evident advantages of demountable structures, their utilisation remains limited in this context due to numerous barriers. Thus, this study aims to identify the critical motivations for the adoption of demountable structures, their current applications, and the challenges they face in the Czech context. It also seeks to provide an understanding of how these circular design principles can support sustainable growth in Czechia.
