Utilization of Fuidized Bed for Combustion of Alternative Fuels

Alternative fuels can be different in comparison with typical solid fuels, e.g. coal or wooden biomass, regarding composition of both combustible matter and ash. Furthermore, these may differ in quite a small range of fuel samples that is not typical forcoal or wooden biomass. This situation significantly influences a possibility and a technology of combustion. This paper describes an example of such a fuel that has been applied in fluidized bed combustion. Two variants of the fuels have been used. Components of the fuel remained unchanged while the share of the amount of components was different. Results of combustion experiments in a bubbling fluidized bed boiler are discussed showing operation parameters and emissions. Two different inert bed materials have been used. There is also discussed analysis of properties of alternative fuel ash and both materials. These properties have been found to be key factors for possible application of this alternative fuel.
