The main goal of this work is to validate a simple CFD model of freeboard section of the experimental bubbling fluidized bed boiler. The model will be used for optimization of secondary air injection as well as for preparation of a basis for further morecomplex CFD model. This paper deals with simulation of flow conditions in the freeboard over the bed. Different turbulence models were employed for flow calculation and the results were compared with measured data. Validation of the CFD model is based on measurement of the velocity under ambient temperature condition in the freeboard. Freeboard geometry has been built up by Gambit and the simulations have been carried out by a commercial code Fluent.
