Implementation of Thermal Compensation for Machine Tools

The paper deals with the implementation of thermal compensation into the control system of machine tools. Universal principles of compensation commonly implemented in control systems cannot comprehensively describe all the influences on a particular machine tool. Therefore, equations that take into account a large number of individual factors were proposed. By doing this an increase in the accuracy of prediction of deviation caused by thermal stress, was achieved. For application of these equations, itwas necessary to perform a series of modifications in the software of the machine control system. The solution is described in a case study of temperature compensation implementation into Sinumerik 840D SL with an attached test bed - model of machine tool with C-frame structure (C-frame), which is deformed due to acting of an external heat source. The calculated deformations of thermal corrections are fed back into the control system and compared with measured values in NI LabVIEW in ord
