This article describes the issue of the influence of mould release agents on thermoforming of carbon reinforced thermoplastic composites with PPS matrix. During the stamping process of the parts, mainly on parts with the walls which are oriented with the mould movement direction, there occures high friction forces on these walls when closing mould. This fact can have an impact on part´s quality (structural defects occurance). Release agent application leads to the better contact lubrication between mould surface and blank, which results mainly in a residual stress decrease during stamping. The most frequent defects are shape deviations and visual defects like a dry fibres and tight fibres. If the optimal and constant sliding properties between mould surface and blank will be ensured, the better shape repeatability will be obtained with the minimum or no visual defects occurance. Measurement and analysis of the mould release agent influence on thermoforming technology was performed on 16 plies C/PPS composite material (satin weave) according to ABS5045 standard, which is nowadays the most wide spread material used for manufacturing of structural parts for aerospace applications. Tribological testing was performed by using tribometer TOP3, which is operated at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Manufacturing Technology, CTU in Prague.
