Nowadays is in Czech Republic 33 foundries of grey iron. Grey iron is the most common material to being casted. This work has began in cooperate with Metalurgie Rumburk. They had a problem with a casting of the machine bed, concretly lathe machine. On the lathes ways were detected defects which were inappropriate for the customer. Rationalization was carried out via numerical simulation software NovaFlow 6.0r5 to simulate filling and solidification and predict defects in the casting. To the simulations proceeded to determine the initial and boundary conditions of the casting proces and also their verification for compliance. Simulation have show the problems of current technology. On the basis of actual problems were made draft solutions and their simulations which should be able to solve problems of current solution.
