Characterization of titanium morphology after various surface pre-treatments
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Surface morphology is a key feature in surface engineering and affects both aesthetics and the function of components. Surface pretreatment has special significance in coating and modification processes. The pre-deposition treatment of the surface has a significant influence on the durability of the adhesion bonds. The resulting morphology can be influenced by the surface pretreatment, especially when thin films and nanolayers are deposited. Surface morphology after various pretreatment methods is studied in this work. Mechanical polishing, electrochemical polishing, chemical etching and ion sputtering were applied to pretreat the titanium surface. Atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscope and light microscopy were used for morphological characterization. Major differences in morphology and roughness were observed, although the thickness of the removed surface layer was comparable in all cases. Typical pre-treatment morphology can be advantageously used in different applications of biomedical engineering (e.g. sliding surfaces, tissue contact surfaces, coating surfaces).
