Directed Energy Deposition of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys: Comparison of Ni-Ti Powder Mixture vs. Pre-alloyed Powder Feedstock
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Ni-Ti alloys with approximately equiatomic composition (49-51 at.% Ni) are among the most important materials exhibiting shape memory effect and superelasticity. Shape memory is a unique property of certain alloys that allows them to recover their original (programmed) shape after deformation when subjected to thermal or mechanical loading-unloading. These phenomena occur in the NiTi intermetallic phase through a reversible martensitic transformation. The martensitic transformation takes place between the high-temperature austenitic structure (B2) and the low-temperature martensitic structure (B19’) [1]. Unique properties such as shape memory and superelasticity are utilized in various applications in robotics, automotive, aerospace, and space industries for actuators, temperature sensors, vibration dampers, and deployable components. NiTi alloys also play a crucial role in the medical field, with applications in stents, orthodontic wires, surgical instruments, bone implants, and fixators [2, 3].
