Characteristics of Aluminosilicate Additives and lignite coal ash for Potassium Capture during Biomass Combustion

  • Popis výsledku v původním jazyce

This paper investigates a process of capturing potassium within thermally stable structures using aluminosilicate additives, fed along with the fuel into the combustion process, forming a solid bond with potassium ions. The objective of the study is to quantify the potassium capture methods using several inorganic additives, consisting of two types of kaolins, three types of metakaolins and two types of lignite coal ash. Four types of agricultural biomass were used for the experiments - wheat husk, two types of agricultural residues and digestate, all in the form of pellets. These fuels were chosen due to the higher potassium content in the ash. The mixtures of fuels with individual additives were prepared at weight fuel-to-additive ratios of 20:1, 30:1, 50:1.). The samples were exposed to three different temperatures 700, 815 and 900°C in a muffle furnace and subsequently analysed for elemental composition. The analysis of exposed samples was compared with the analysis of the original form and the effect of individual additives on potassium capture was evaluated. Generally, the potassium capture increases with the increasing additive ratio, and the highest ratio in some cases leads up to 100% of potassium capture. The effect of temperature on potassium capture is ambiguous according to the results. In the case of using agricultural residues, there is a slight decrease in potassium capture on the additives when the temperature exceeds 815°C.
