This report presents the results of our investigation of a slotline with a wide slot working in the regime of the excitation of a space leaky wave of the fist order. Both the standard and the conductor backed slotline are taken into account. The slotlineleaky wave antenna has been designed, fabricated and measured. The slotline antenna radiates two main beams on the opposite sides of the substrate. The metallization on the rear side of the substrate ensures the radiation of only one main beam but completely changes the line behaviour. The possibility of the conductor backed slotline operating as a leaky wave radiator has been proved. The process of designing the conductor backed slotline antenna has not yet been completed and will be the subject of the further investigation.
