In this paper the authors comment on a set of problems related to data acquisition system specification from the user s point of view and present examples that justify their concerns with the past lack of standardization in this domain. References to thenew project of standard IEC 62008 are made and reveal that the authors expect it to be a positive contribution to overcome users problems when designing systems requiring data acquisition capabilities.
