Masking of sound signal is a phenomenon utilized especially in sound compression. Masking means not hearing a given signal due to the presence of other, stronger signal, generally in the temporal or frequency vicinity of the masked one. Masking is strongly dependent on frequency and amplitude of the masker, as well as on the character of both masking and masked sounds. The purpose of this project was measuring of masking curves, comparing of results to the published ones acquired in similar tests and gaining deeper understanding of the masking phenomenon.
