Novel Approach in Video Filter Design

This paper deals with fully evolutionary design method for low-pass video filter. Novelty of the proposed method inheres in an application of an evolutionary algorithm at every step of the design, e. g. search of suitable transfer function, realization of biquad sections for a cascade synthesis, sizing of CMOS devices in active building block employed in biquads. Mentioned filter design process was supported by an algorithm of differential evolution [4], which is implemented in several Maple, Mathematica and C++ scripts developed at our department. This optimization method has been successfully used by the authors in their recent work [1,3,5] on several levels of abstraction (block-, functional model-, transistorlevel, etc.). The SDTV filter design waschosen as an example of functionality of the proposed filter design process. The tolerance scheme of any other LP filter with pass band as wide as tens of MHz could be used as well(e.g. HDTV, a lot of different video standards).
