Development of a Method for Regeneration of Spent Electrochemical Decontamination Solution on the Basis of Data on Speciation of Metal Ions in Solution
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Spent electrochemical decontamination solution is a water solution containing oxalic and citric acids, Cr(III), Ni(II), considerable amount of Fe(III), radionuclides 59Fe, 60Co, 54Mn and 110Ag. This work is aimed to determine the form of the components and to predict how their speciation can be changed in order to facilitate the regeneration of spent solution. Speciation studies were focused on the effect of complexants on the iron hydroxide precipitation and on the co-precipitation of radionuclides. Itwas concluded, the process could be advantageous, providing that pH-value during Fe(III) precipitation is high enough. Experiments with simulant and real solution confirmed foregoing conclusion. More than 80% of iron was removed and the activity reduceddown to background values by adjusting pH higher than 10.5 while nearly all organics were left in the solution after the precipitation. Thus, the solution after the treatment can be used, repeatedly.
