Research in engineering and natural sciences is an expensive business, and existing programmes supporting mobility of students do not take the costs of research into account. Therefore, longer stays of MSc students dealing with their research projects, finishing theses, etc., are still more an exception than the rule, and are based more on bilateral agreements between universities than on a systematic European system of support. Some appropriate European programme, which would allow expenses to be covered for wide-scale student mobility for research is therefore desirable.
