For many applications (in medicine and industry) powerful mid-infrared radiation can be useful. For this reason, Q-switch operated Er:YAG laser and corresponding delivery system are necessary. We report about specially designed LiNbO3 Pockels cell by help of which the short 60 ns mid-infrared pulses were generated. The laser oscillator was formed by Er:YAG crystal with 4 mm diameter and 90 mm length which was placed along Xe flashlamp in diffuse LMI cavity. Plan-parallel resonator (length ~ 31 cm) was consisted of total reflective and 87 % reflexivity dielectric mirrors (for 2.94 um wavelength). For giant pulse generation two Brewster angle cut LiNbO3 crystal was inserted inside this oscillator and a specially designed driver ensured the precise time of Pockels cell switching. It enabled us to measure the exact delay between flashlamp pulse trigger and starting point of the Pockels cell opening to reach the optimalization of the input parameters, which can have an impact on the output
