Calculation of the Mixed Neutron-Gamma Reference Fields Characteristics

Set of the spherical experimental assemblies (iron and water with 252Cf sources positioned to the sphere center) for the mixed neutron-gamma reference fields implementation was studied. Studies of the mixed fields including neutron and gamma flux and spectra experimental measurements (using shadow shield technique), Monte Carlo simulations (using MCNPX code) and benchmark tests were done. Some effects, hard to estimate experimentally, were studied. Effect of the shielding cones transparency and contribution of the secondary particles from interaction in the cone were analyzed for neutron and gamma components. Contributions of individual components (direct radiation, scattering in the air/floor, interactions/scattering in the cone) were estimated. Influence of the real source arrangement (transport box, pneumatic rabbit holder) on the mixed field radial distribution was studied as well as effect of the source transport channel plugging. Results were compared with experimental data.
