In this paper we report on an actively mode-locked laser oscillator with 3.5 at.% Tmdoped LiYF4 crystal as the active medium. In the free-running regime this laser emerged as an efficient source of radiation at 1.91 m wavelength. In quasi-CW regime we achieved slope efficiency of 37.3 % and overall optical efficiency of 34 %. In true-CW operation the efficiency somewhat deteriorated (slope 25.5 %, optical-to-optical efficiency 23.5 %), giving maximal output power of 4.4 W, which was limited by the damage threshold of laser crystal and should be further scalable. Generated wavelength was 1.908 m and was tunable via birefringent plate in range between 1880 nm and 1980 nm. To the best of our knowledge, active mode-locking of Tm:YLF laser was achieved forthe first time. Using an acousto-optic modulator stable train of pulses at 1.91 m with repetition rate of 149.7 MHz and duration of 220 ps was obtained.
