Emergency localization of users by means of GSM and 3G network
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Many patients of home care have high risk of sudden life threatening events. Home care monitoring system, which is being developed at our department, has a potential to detect such events and therefore increase patients safety. In order to provide patient with quick and appropriate care, it is crucial to determine his/her location. Our monitoring unit is equipped with GSM/GPRS module and optionally with GPS receiver. GPS offers precise positioning, but it could be used exclusively under open sky and cannot receive signal indoors. That is why we are interested in determining user's position by means of GSM/3G infrastructure as an alternative to GPS. Methods of user localization in GSM network are well known, but the implementation is dependent on accessto detailed information of the GSM network infrastructure. In order to localize users regardless of service provider, we implemented our own method, based on public GSM/3G base station databases as described in this paper.
