Value engineering and multi-criteria decision making applied to the assessment of patient monitors
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Background: Hospitals regularly deal with the issue of purchasing medical equipment. In the last twenty years there has been great scientific and technological development that brought a large number of new medical diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and technologies. This development has undoubtedly led to improvements in health care and quality of life of patients, but is accompanied by a steady increase in costs that are exceeding limited financial resources of health care facilities. As a solutionto this problem, we proposed a methodology supporting the selection of appropriate health technology in medical facilities (HTAi 2012 Annual Meeting, Gac Sanit.2012; 26: 251). This methodology was applied to the selection of patient monitors in the intensive care unit. Methods and Conclusions: Based on conducted market analysis and the selected criteria, a shortlist of patient monitors was chosen and made ready for further application of selected methods of HTA and value engineering.
