The chapter will focus on the complex issue of substance and process addictions, which are a major global problem. The introductory part will focus on the definition of key concepts related to existing legal norms, individual types of addictions, statistical evaluation of users of illicit substances in the Czech Republic (including analysis of psychosomatic health consequences of individual addictions). It will also include a description of the different types and effects of addictive substances that are abused by addicts in the Czech Republic. It will include an analysis of the risk factors that contribute to the creation and development of each type of addiction. Attention will be focused on the possibilities of implementing preventive educational activities, increasing the legal awareness of target groups in the segment of addictive substances, and preventive programs in the conditions of the Czech school system in connection with the cooperation of schools and individual components of the integrated rescue system. Also the transformation of prevention activities in schools in the context of the global pandemic, when field prevention activities were reduced and new ways of spreading prevention had to be found. An integral part will be the presentation of preventive and educational programs implemented by the National Drug Headquarters of the Police of the Czech Republic, or programs and educational activities in which it participates as a guarantor and expert. The paper will conclude by pointing out the possibilities of effective use of preventive educational activities to reduce drug crime.
