The Klokner Institute of the Czech Technical University in Prague has a long-term experience with the monitoring of buildings and historical monuments, bridges, cooling towers and industrial chimneys. Monitoring provides valuable information to be used for decision making about maintenance and rehabilitation of existing structures. Obtained data may also be applied for the calibration of partial factors and other reliability elements provided in National Annexes to Eurocodes. Several road bridges have been monitored in the Czech Republic since the last decade of 20th century, focusing on temperatures and traffic loads. The results of temperature monitoring were statistically evaluated and used for the calibration of the characteristic and design valuesof uniform and temperature difference components.
