Orthotic insoles are prescribed in foot related problems in order to positively influence the roll-over process and modify foot loading characteristics. Pads and posting elements are being used for the individual purposes in various combinations but theexact mechanisms are still not well understood (Razeghi&Batt, 2000). Furthermore, it has been shown that subjects may respond differently to the same type of orthotic (Nigg et al. 2003). While the effectiveness of orthotic prescriptions with respect to reduction of foot related problems will only be revealed after extended use, the acute mechanical effects can be evaluated without considering the individual adaptations to the changes in the insole design. The present study investigated the acute foot loading changes of different insole modifications in subjects without current foot problems.
