Self-reinforcement of polyolefins
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The improved strength of polymer can be achieved by modification of the supermolecular structure when the polymer chains are oriented in a certain direction. Due to oriented morphology, the polymer becomes self-reinforced. This way of property modification is appropriate namely for commodity polymers, such as polyolefins. They have low costs but unfortunately usually low mechanical properties and therefore, any improvement is desirable. This work is concerned with self-reinforcement by continuous extrusion. For the purpose of a self-reinforced polyolefin extrudate preparation, the experimental extrusion line consisting of conventional single-screw extruder, gear pump and special-designed die with semi-hyperbolic convergent channel was used. The semi-hyperbolic convergency of the channel should provide an almost pure elongational melt flow and therefore a high orientation effect. High pressure generated by the gear pump and relatively low die temperatures cause polymer crystallization a
