The study of polymer/clay nanocomposite is one of the most expanding regions in polymer science. Aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of clay nature, its agglomerate size and used modification on final properties of PVC/clay compounds. Two kinds of montmorillonite, namely Cloisite Na+ and Bentonite P140, were tested. Firstly, these clays were sieved and two smallest fractions were isolated. Secondly, these fractions of both clays were modified by ion-dipole intercalation method. Polyethylene glycol was used as intercalation agent and isodecyl diphenyl phosphate as co-intercalation agent. Different ratios of these agents were applied. Further, degree of intercalation was compared by X-ray diffraction and FTIR. Consequently, modified nanofillers,as well as natural fillers were compounded with suspension type of PVC and other additives using double roll mill to produce sheet.
