A New Approach to the Use of Magnetic Materials in Tumour Therapy by Hyperthermia
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Hyperthermia, medical heat treatment of tumours, is one of the progressive and acclaimed methods, which has been widely investigated and successfully used in clinical practice for a long time as an independent method as well as in combination with chemotherapy and radiotherapy. One of hyperthermia main issues is being able to maintain target temperature in a rather narrow effective range, 42 to 45°C, without major risks to host tissue. The hyperthermia heating techniques are based on energy delivery bymeans of electromagnetic field, either in the form of capacitive heating (0.1-300 MHz), or by radiative heating (300-3000 MHz). Major limitation is that such heat delivery is not site-specific thus resulting in overheating of healthy tissue. In order toovercome the aforesaid problems of heat delivery by electromagnetic waves, apart from innovation in device and treatment planning models in hyperthermia, the localization of heating by radio absorbing materials embedded into the tumour is
