The Rubber Fouling of Mold Cavities
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The paper deals with the study of the mold fouling that occurs during the vulcanization process of rubber compounds. The aim of the work is to understand the causes and to reduce and eventually eliminate this technological drawback. Rubber compounds with various types of rubber, which have been currently used industrially for the production of various products, were studied. Molds, which were designed especially for this fouling experiment, were made of steel and aluminium alloys. Further, molds were exposed to repeated compression molding and the composition of persistent rubber deposit was investigated with Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy without removal of fouling from the metal specimens. Results confirmed practical experience that an extent of mold fouling is a function of the mold material. FTIR spectra measurement appeared to be difficult regarding the metal mold materials and therefore, the experiments were supplemented with a glass reference specimen. The experiments proved that the research on the fouling, which is carried with the spectroscopic method, is valuable and worth to contitnue because there is a need to create a library of the results of conducted experiments and find a general solution for fouling elimination.
