Crystallization of Polypropylene with Silanized Silica
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The work deals with the crystallization study of polypropylene, which is filled with modified silica. The silica was synthesized using the well-known Stöber process and then silanized with organosilanes with different lengths of alkyl chains. The efficiency of the activation process was evaluated by TGA. Silica treated in this way should be more compatible with non-polar polypropylene due to increased hydrophobicity and adhesion between the nanoparticles and polymer matrix. To find out this hypothesis, mixtures of polypropylene with with modified and unmodified silica were prepared. Mixtures were subjected to thermal analysis using a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and the crystal structure was investigated by wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS). The results confirmed that silanized silica acts as a nucleating agent whereas the functionality of the nucleating agent increases with longer alkyl chains in the organosilane.
