Rural areas account for more than eighty percent of the territory of the European Union and are home to some twenty five percent of the population. In rural territory can by find industrial production sites, high-tech service centers, unspoiled natural landscapes, commercial forests, and large recreation facilities. Conservation of these natural resources and utilization of human capital in rural areas should be the most strategic trend in rural development in Europe comparative to South Asian poverty reduction.
