This article presents a general overview of information and communication security and its core concepts. ICT security is an important field of computer science concerned with the control of risks related to use of computers. This paper speaks about basic rules and describes how these can be applied to achieve network and computer security. The field of information security has grown and evolved significantly in recent years. As a career choice there are many ways of gaining entry into the field. It offers many areas for specialization including Information Systems Auditing, Business Continuity Planning and Digital Forensics Science, to name a few. Most of the paper is dedicated to end-users, their most frequent mistakes and lack of knowledge as the end-user is crucial for computer security.
