Purpose of the article Many companies understand that TQM is necessary for them to remain competitive, retaining their market share and to be able to respond to changing competitive demand in today. But some companies failed to implement TQM successfully. Therefore, the identification of critical success factors for successful implementation as well as the problems faced by companies in implementing TQM is an important. Master (1996) has identified eight barriers as a main road blocks for implementing.The purpose of this study is to identify the extent or degree of influence of the 8 barriers pertaining to the Medium Size Family Companies (MSFC) who engaging in Shoe manufacturing in Sri Lanka. Methodology/methods The study philosophy is positivistic and used deductive approach. Data collected with the use of a structured questionnaire and interviews conducted with the relevant personnel within selected companies.
