Ergonomics is a science which optimizes working conditions. There are many areas where ergonomics plays important role. Primarily human health and better working conditions. Equally important is reduction of health costs. This article presents the definition of ergonomics and its benefits. Especially it presents the study at a selected company in the Czech automobile industry. The research questions: Can ergonomics help to fight rising health care costs? Can work environments be improved, and thus costs for companies and the state reduced, with the help of ergonomic tools? are answered. It also includes a quantification of the economic impact of ergonomics.
