Within the Czech Republic, the history of credit unions, savings and loan co-operatives and other types of credits and mutuals was very rich till the beginning of World War II. However, these days there are only a few "credit cooperatives/ credit unions" left many of which are gradually changing under the Basel European regulations and the supervision of the Czech National Bank into banking institutions.
