Emotional intelligence of university students in Central Europe: cross-cultural comparison between Czech and Slovak students
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
The research focuses on emotional intelligence and its cross-cultural comparison between Czech and Slovak university students. Such surveys have not been carried out in Central Europe yet. This research is based on the trait EI model (Petrides & Furnham 2001, 2003). Data collection included 1122 Czech and Slovak university students and the use of the TEIQue. We found out significant (p < .001) cross-cultural differences between the students. Slovak students had a higher total EI score (M = 4.83) than Czech students (M = 4.62). Slovak students showed also a higher score in the factors of well-being (Czech M = 4.72; Slovak M = 5.06; p < .001) and emotionality (Czech M = 4.53; Slovak M = 4.80; p < .001). No cross-cultural differences were discovered in the factors of sociability and self-control. Cultural context amounts to about 2.3 % (Rsum2 = .023; p < .001) variability of total EI.
