Die Edition der Korrespondenz von Cesare Speciano, des päpstlichen Nuntius auf dem Kaiserhof in Prag in den Jahren 1592–1598, ist Ergebnis des Studiums der sich im Vatikanischen Archiv, in der Vatikanischen Bibliothek und in der Ambrosianischen Bibliothek in Mailand befindlichen Handschriften. Die Nuntiaturen fungierten als Vollzugsorgan der päpstlichen Aussenpolitik auf den europäischen Herrscherhöfen und die Nuntiatur auf dem Kaiserhof, in deren Umkreis auch die Länder der Böhmischen Krone gehörten, war von erstrangiger Bedeutung. Deshalb gehört die Nuntiaturkorrespondenz zu einer der bedeutendsten Quellen für die Erforschung der europäischen und auch tschechischen Geschichte im Zeitalter der Konfessionskämpfe des 16. und 17. Jahrhunderts. Die 868 Stücke der Korrespondenz zwischen Speciano und dem Staatssekretariat in Rom werden im vollständigen Wortlaut auf Italienisch, Regesten, textkritischer Apparat und Sachkommentar auf Deutsch publiziert. Die anhand der erhaltenen Quellen sowie der tschechischen und ausländischen Fachliteratur erarbeitete Einführungsstudie in deutcher Sprache wird zum Bestandteil der Edition.

The edition of the correspondence of Cesare Speciano, Papal nuncio at the Imperial Court in Prague in 1592–1598, completes research of the manuscripts in the Vatican Archives, the Vatican Library and in the Ambrosian Library in Milan, and publishes the nunciature correspondence from 1592 to 1594. The nunciatures were the executive organs of Papal foreign policy at European courts and the nunciature at the Imperial Court, which included the Crown of Bohemia, had a primary importance. Consequently, the nunciature correspondence is one of the most important sources for understanding European and Czech history during the confessional struggles of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The Correspondence between Speciano and the Papal State Secretary is published in extenso in Italian, abstracts (regesta), standard textual and subject footnote apparatus, and a comprehensive index in German. The scholarly edition also includes a substantial introductory study carried out using archival sources and European and Czech secondary literature.
