ANALYSIS OF ACUTE HOSPITALIZATIONS DUE TO CARDIOVASCULAR AND RESPIRATORY CAUSES IN OSTRAVA IN THE PERIOD 2013-2018.
Popis výsledku v původním jazyce
Introduction: Cardiovascular and respiratory related diseases rank among the most common causes of death in the world. The severity of the diseases is mainly caused by increased morbidity and, therefore, also increased number of hospitalizations. Furthermore, such diseases contribute to increased mortality, not only in the Czech Republic but also in the majority of developed countries. The disease prevalence mostly correlates with diet, smoking habit, physical activity and other risk factors including environmental factors [2-6]. Morbidity, as well as mortality, could be decreased by reduction of the risk factors, therefore, reduction of the risk factors is the key task for prevention of these diseases. The aim of this study is analysis of acute cardiovascular and respiratory causes of hospitalizations in the most polluted region in the Czech Republic. Methods: Data on acute hospitalizations for cardiovascular causes (diagnoses I00-I99 according to ICD-10) and respiratory causes (dg. J00-J99) was collected on the basis of the study "Validation of the relationship between PM10, PM2,5 a PM1 and morbidity and mortality in a heavily polluted region of the CR" (project TA CR TH03030195) from three hospitals located in Ostrava in the period 2013-2018. Ostrava with about 300 thousand inhabitants is the third largest city in the Czech Republic. The data was analysed by sex, age category (0-90+ years), year and season. For description descriptive statistics was used. The statistical analysis was done by t-test, chi-squared test, and Spearman's correlation coefficient (rs) on the significance level of 5%. Statistical analysis was performed using SW Stata version 15. Results: Overall, 22 392 acute hospitalizations for cardiovascular and respiratory causes were evaluated, 53% were men and 47% women. The statistical difference between causes of hospitalizations by gender (p<0.001) and age (p<0.001) was found. The proportion of cardiovascular causes was higher in woman than in man (Table 1). The average age of patients hospitalized for cardiovascular causes was 71.2 years, for respiratory causes 40.8 years (Figure 1). The average age at hospitalization was significantly lower in men in both causes, for cardiovascular causes 68.4 years for men, 74.0 years for women, for respiratory causes 38.7, respectively 43.7 years.
